about the author
Vittorio De Cosmo
Vittorio De Cosmo was born in 1946 in Sepino, a beautiful hilltop town in the Molise region of Italy. He received a degree in Physics from the University of Florence in 1972 and has had a long-distinguished career as a university professor, researcher, and lecturer in various countries especially in the field of astrophysics. Before his recent retirement he worked for many years at the Italian Space Agency (ASI) where, among other duties, he was Head of the Earth Observation Section, and the Italian delegate to a number of commissions of the European Space Agency.
He has authored numerous scientific papers and has participated in and chaired a number of national and international conferences in his field. This book is part of his continuing effort to instill in young people – especially middle and high school students – respect for the environment, and in particular a better understanding of the dangers our planet faces from climate change and global warming. His other current passions are his volunteer work for Lions Clubs International, trekking, music, and writing “climatic” fables for children. For the last thirty-five years he has lived in Rome with his wife Diana.
